Help & Support
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I back up my data?
TextBase automatically tracks versions of your documents. To browse and restore previous versions, right-click any file and select “Browse Versions.” Your documents and tags are stored locally on your device. For additional backups, you can copy the TextBase data folder from your Documents directory to an external drive or cloud storage.
Can I use TextBase online?
No. TextBase is offline-only. All your data stays on your device, and you can write and manage tags without an internet connection.
How is AI used?
TextBase can use AI to help populate tag details based on context from your writing. Select a tag and choose “Fill with AI” to generate suggestions for character descriptions, location details, or other tag fields. This feature requires an internet connection. When you use AI, only the selected text and tag information is sent to our AI provider—your full document is never transmitted.
Is my writing used to train AI?
No. Your writing is never used to train AI models. When you use AI features, data is processed to generate your response and then discarded.
Can I use AI to generate content in TextBase?
TextBase integrates with Apple Intelligence for AI features, but we don’t recommend using AI to generate your writing content. TextBase is designed to help you track and organize your own writing, not to generate it for you.
How can I import or export my documents?
Import and export features are planned for a future release.
Can I sync my data across devices?
Cloud sync is planned for a future release. Currently, TextBase is MacOS only and stores all data locally on each device.
